I live close to the ocean, often in a storm the sky becomes the sea. The Sky Becomes the Sea was the planned title for this piece. I decided to rename the work after more than one friend remarked that standing in front of the work, the waves seem to move.
The sheer size and transparent colors pulled them into the rhythm of the sea...
Hand ground oil paint was applied and scraped to reveal hidden depths.
Patiently built surfaces form waves, and and layer after layer of color.
The colors are natural pigments, finely ground semi-precious stones: real sleeping beauty turquoise, moonstone, malachite and lapis lazuli.
Natural materials connect us with nature.
