I work in a very process oriented way. For me, the process of making the art is bound up with the meaning of the art in inexplicable ways. My work is meant as a meditation on the beauty and fragility of our environment, to take a day to weave a leaf is in itself a statement about leaves. My work is also meant to be a celebration of the gifts we each hold. Many of the techniques I use are part of the soul of the culture where they originated, and are in and of themselves gifts to us all. I feel honored and privileged to be able to engage them in my art making. So, for me the art of making objects is about so much more than concept and imagery. Techniques and processes which take years to master honor something about what it means to be human and are as integral to my work as the content.
