I work with many materials. Clay, glass, weaving, paint….each is a language that speaks to different aesthetic goals.
In this work, “Sea Anemones,” fiber seemed the ideal medium to express the movement, intensity of color, and complexity of the intricate forms found on a coral reef. The waves are structured with sewing techniques to create the sense of water flowing over the surface. Delicate layers of silk gauze, embroidery, handmade paper, and felted wool, merge to create a micro-ecosystem that invites touch and contemplation.
My work is meant as a meditation on the beauty and fragility of our world. My work is also meant to be a celebration of the gifts we each hold.
Techniques and processes which take years to master honor something about what it means to be human and are as integral to my work as the content.
